ABOUT

ABOUT

FIRST STEPS On The Promenade is a three bedroom STA house for young adults with a disability who want to learn domestic, social and daily living skills in a safe home away from their usual living arrangements.

FIRST STEPS provides short stays so your young adult can gently transition to living outside the family home at his/her own pace.

Guests stay at the house with their own carer or support worker.  The carer guides the guest through short, medium and long term core and capacity building goals both in the home and out in the community.

We offer as many orientation visits as you and your adult child need to feel comfortable before the first overnight stay.

FIRST STEPS supports you and your adult child to spend time apart, providing respite to help sustain you in your caring role.

FIRST STEPS is premium STA and respite accommodation - There is a maximum of two booked guests in the house at any one time so your young adult has the space to learn.

FIRST STEPS is flexible - Bookings are casual.  No long-term commitment is required.

Your young adult can book a single night stay or multiple nights.

Online bookings are simple and fast.

Overnight stays are for 24 hours so there is no frantic 10am check out time.

 â€‹

The house is in Narre Warren South in a quiet, tree-lined street 3 minutes from the local shopping precinct.

ABOUT US

Dad, David, Mum_edited.jpg
David and Miwa

FIRST STEPS is run by the parents of two young adults with severe autism and intellectual disability.

Driven by the desire for their son and daughter to learn to live away from home in a place they could trust, Miwa and her husband have created a safe, fully enclosed STA and respite house to enable them to provide this living-out-of-home experience.

We understand that you are exhausted.

We understand that you and your child need a break from each other to not only sustain you in your caring role, but to support your relationship with your young adult.

We also understand that sometimes your adult child can learn better outside the family home... that a good support worker or carer can achieve things with your child that we as parents, cannot.

FIRST STEPS provides you with a safe space you can trust to support your young adult's ongoing learning.

We are committed to building small, compatible pairs of young people to share the house with each other.

There will only ever be two guests in the house at a time (plus carers).

Your young person will only share with someone who is suitable for your child's sensitivities and behaviours.

Call Miwa to discuss what you would like your young adult to achieve during his/her overnight stays at

FIRST STEPS On The Promenade.
